4 Unusual Things to Look Out For In The Shambles, York
Take a step or two back in time and wander through The Shambles in York. But this time, look down instead of up at the overhanging buildings jostling for space. See if you can spot the hidden animals and ‘doorways’ that many of the locals haven’t even noticed.
The Hidden Entrances
Who would live behind these doors? The second one is a mouse – obviously, but what about the others? Faries, Pixies, or a Goblin perhaps?!
The Black Cat
A black cat can be found climbing a wall in The Shambles. It is part of the York Cat Trail, and one of many cats found on buildings around York city centre.
How to get to The Shambles in York?
Access to The Shambles is on foot. It is well signposted from most places in the city centre, and you can visit 24 hours a day. The 3 ways to get there are via Kings Square, through The Shambles market, or from Pavement (almost opposite the Golden Fleece pub).
Walking The Shambles is child-friendly, dog friendly, and free.
The narrow street can get crowded at times. I prefer to go early in the morning or at night when there are fewer people around.
